
Man killed working on Madonna concert

Madonna’s concert in the south of France on Sunday (19Jul09) has been cancelled after a worker was crushed to death under a falling stage.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon (16Jul09) at Marseilles Stade Velodrome, where Madonna was due to perform at the weekend.
According to reports four cranes were holding a large section of the stage when a strap broke dropping it on a group of technicians working below.
Authorities in the city have confirmed one person has died, two are fighting for their life in hospital and another six are currently being treated for their injuries.
The whole area was barricaded after the accident, and WENN’s sources have confirmed the singer’s performance in the city has been scrapped.
Update: The dead man was a 53-year-old Frenchman. The two critically injured workers are American and British.
Madonna has released the following statement:
“I am devastated to have just received this tragic news. My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news.”
