The golden Prince and the ‘Belle of the ball

Prince skipped the red carpet at last night’s 75th birthday party for Harlem’s Apollo Theater, but he opted for an eye-popping gold suit onstage.
The singer joined stars including Mariah Carey, Quincy Jones and Smokey Robinson to honour the legendary New York venue and induct soul legend Patti LaBelle into its Legends Hall of Fame.

Hargitay perhaps not getting enough oxygen to fashion parts of brain

It’s great to see Law & Order: SVU Emmy-winner Mariska Hargitay back to health after battling a collapsed lung on and off for months; Hargitay — shown above at Wednesday night’s Gracie Awards in Manhattan — recently confessed that years of doing her own stunts on the crime drama were at least in part to blame for her health problems this year.
From the neck down, yeesh. Black-and-white is really hot right now, but as hard as it is to make a woman with Hargitay’s nice figure look dumpy, that’s exactly what those ruffles do. We’re going to have to book her on misdemeanor unflattering.

…Really, Luke Perry?

Luke Perry, formerly Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills 90210 and recently seen (or…not) in no-budget schlock like Silent Venom, appears not to have gotten the memo that the ’90s are over. He appeared on the green carpet for the Global Green USA 13th Annual Millennium Awards Saturday night in Santa Monica wearing a too-large sportcoat, pale jeans, and…a Taz tie? And the guy thinks he’s too good to reprise the role of Dylan for the 90210 reboot?

Dita Von Teese attacked by brain-sucking wiglet

We understand that Dita Von Teese’s whole brand is the Bettie Page, Joan Crawford, ’40s-noir pin-up-girl thing. But that has its limits, and we have to draw the line at Von Teese’s hairpiece, which looks like a bagel mated with Rosalind Russell, and the huge shoulderpads that don’t say “war years” so much as “Battlestar Galactica.”
But what do we know; Von Teese is apparently getting cozy with a much younger man, so the look she was sporting at Saturday night’s Genlux magazine fashion show must work for him.
